This is more for my less tech savvy friends who may not realized that they (or their family) is being ripped off at target, best buy or wal-mart. So let me give you some quick heads up advice.
If you are buying electronics at a retail store, don't be afraid to check your item before you leave. Open up the Ipod, xbox, or DVD player and make sure that there is one in there! Sometimes people buy electronics, fill it with junk, seal it up really well and return it the store for you to buy. It is happening more often and people working behind the counter are too dumb to understand what happened. Also, make sure the serial number on the unit matches the number on the box.
Also check the model number of your purchase. For example if you buy a Canon D10 camera and you open the box and inside is a Canon D07 (not a real camera but I'm trying to make a point here.)they look the same but are 2 very different products.
Here is an example of how you can easily get ripped off at wal-mart. The employees don't even notice that the ipod is a bootleg.
